In 2012, my life was humming along quite nicely. I had a great job and family and was enjoying life day to day. Then my sister got sick. And in the blink of an eye, she turned my world upside down. My brother and I were now taking turns flying out to take care of her. She was diagnosed with Angiosarcoma, a very rare cancer of the lining of the organs. She was a great patient of massage, had always gotten weekly massages to manage her stress. When we found out her time on earth was limited to days, my brother and I asked her what did she want to do and where did she want to go? She said she didn't have anything on her bucket list and that she had lived her life to the fullest. She had no regrets. This inspired me. How do I get to the point where I'm happy with what I've given to those around me and I'm able to pass on without wishing I had done differently.
This led me to look at my career. As much as I loved the people I had come into contact with, I was not advancing any further and frankly, I couldn't see myself doing that job for the next 20 years. So, acting as my sister would, I took a leap of faith and landed in massage school.
My hobbies include getting healthier by my next birthday, enjoying outdoor activities, going to as many concerts as I can, traveling, visiting the beach as often as possible and catering to my husband and my two children - Drew is a recent Catawba College graduate and my daughter Jaime irecent Hickory Grove Christian School graduate who is on her way to her freshman year at NC State. Right now I'm searching for an organization to donate my time, and at this point it seems to be one that deals with human trafficking. I also help with the Make an Impact Foundation when I can.
